A very specific period is approaching into the winter fashion, the celebration time, Carnival. Following one of the meanings of carnival as the travelling amusement show, I would like to invite you to the journey of the most luminous colour of this season - golden. We won’t be disappointed with the versatility that designers use in their artistry. Gold is present in whole forms, or like embellishments, served as glitters and the background. We will find it in rock ‘n’ roll bohemia with a decadent claw, the same as in soft retro style, or even in designs incredibly resembling the king’s robes, vestments and works of Church icons.
Yes to royalty, opulence, glamour.
Yes to royalty, opulence, glamour.
ROYALTY
Alexander McQueen’s - swansong collection outlines the vision of Medieval Ages in a poetically dignified manner. Sara Burton described the work of McQueen saying: He was looking at the art of the Dark Ages, but finding light and beauty in it. He was coming in every day, draping and cutting pieces on the stand."
Givenchy Couture – breathtaking details, regal ornamentation and intricate skeletal constructions encrusted with gold palettes, stones, and beads – one word: couture.
Giafranco Ferre – Cleopatra look or ancient chic in nude jersey gowns mixed with futuristic elements like golden sequins, gold leather panel or shiny harness. So called “decorated minimalism”.
ROCK'N'ROLL
Balmain - well known from its flamboyant, glossy but still Rock’n’Roll style, for the season Fall/Winter 2010/2011 the brand introduces us to the regal carnival outfits including hot little Goldie from Balmain appearing in 7 covers so far from August:

Other Little Goldies:
Long Dresses:
Emillio Pucci – Following the words of Peter Dundas: I wanted to do something that felt lush," about the collection, his point of view is aimed to plain glam interlaced with golden embroidery.
Roberto Cavalli – Renaissance bohemia. Hippy style composed with wealth and glamour side of vintage. Golden jacquard leggings can rivet the attention of fashionistas and fashion hunters.
RETRO
Giles – lovely sixties are accompanied with modernized retro outfits but still U can hear the Beatles in the background. Palette of bronze makes a soft mixture with gold embellishments, brocade and metallic fabrics.
Rochas – great example of golden retro asthe collection was based on romantic comedy from late 60’s. Marco Zanini explained his main inspirations:”It’s a smiley collection, joyful. I did a lot of playing with materials and colors that are weird together”.
GOTHIC
Rick Owens –"Glamorous nuns, with inner discipline"- as Rick Owens explains his collection; this is the vision of a powerful woman with her own ideology of glamour, a woman warrior that counts on her animal instinct wearing zigzag-patterned leggings and wrapped asymmetrical metallic dresses.
Lanvin - While Owens bet on animal instinct, Alber Elbaz goes on a completely different direction. As Rick, he presents a strong woman but with one difference. She is a city animal, a fierce Roman soldier of an industrial modern metropolis.
WIRES
Iris van Herpen – Her stunning collection “Synesthesia” “inspired by the cross-sensational phenomenon of feeling sound, smelling motion, and hearing colour” evokes a highly perceptual and sensory sensation. It’s the vision of three-dimensional fashion that appeals to all senses.
