T-shirts started becoming popular in the US as they were worn by sailors and marines and gradually became adopted by workers in various industries as it was easily fitted, cleaned and inexpensive.
Gradually T-shirts became a medium of advertising and expression. Large companies such as Coca Cola used t-shirts as a form of marketing and promotion. Since the 1980s a form of artistic expression started flourishing, allowing artists, designers, illustrators and creative people in general to use t-shirts as canvases that served visual communication.
