Infinity Brown Silk by Allegra Hicks

The Rug Company is the milestone of designer rugs! With a breathtaking collection of both contemporary and traditional designs by distinguished designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Diane Von Furstenberg, Paul Smith, Marni and many more, there is no chance not to find just the right rug to complement your space. Every piece is made by hand and much attention is given to both quality and craftsmanship.

Custom orders are also welcome. As the owners note in their official site: “Any existing design can be easily customised. Sizes can be altered, as can colourings. We have more than a thousand different coloured wools and silks to work with. In addition to customising any rug from our collections, we can design a rug from scratch specifically to your requirements. We are happy to give expert advice, to come up with ideas and visuals, and to oversee the design being hand made by our craftsmen in Nepal. It might take a little longer, but the result will be something unique and, we like to think, especially treasured.”

I was awe inspired when I discovered the work of photographer Massimo Listri. I also felt a bit stupid for not knowing him, as he is one of the most important interior design photographers and has captured numerous famous spaces with his lens.

Below you can view some of his shots from various museums and public spaces, demonstrating his impressive style and excellent taste.

Romantic style
is very close to what is called shabby chic: a soft, beautiful and feminine approach to decoration.

Luyina Moodie is an interior stylist who knows exactly how to bring a breath of romance to interiors.
View her stunning work below!

There are plenty of tips and advice around if you want to give an elegant, romantic touch to your space. Here are some basics that can get you started:

  • Focus in using vintage and antique furniture. An old, dull piece of furniture can be transformed to something entirely different by painting it white and then rubbing and sanding away the top paint coat in order to get that purposely distressed off white tone. More colors other than white can also be used but you need to choose a pastel tone.
  • Fabrics can literally transform a space if used and combined wisely. Floral motifs are a must if you’re going for the shabby style decoration. Fabric covered boxes of various sized can also be used as accents that add romance to your space. Lace & ribbons can be also used creatively.
  • Keep your eyes open for beautiful vintage and floral wallpapers that can definitely give a quick romantic lift to your home.
  • Other popular decoration items such as vintage chandeliers, pillows, porcelain and glass collections on display can be incorporated as well to accentuate this style.
No matter the style you’re after, the key is personal expression. Don’t be afraid to experiment and be sure that you will subsequently accomplish just the right atmosphere.

Talented photographer Emily Gilbert brings out the fresh ‘personality’ and warmth of the following interiors. I quote from her online bio: “Her fascination with lines, space, and repetition coupled with her experience as a Set Dresser lead her to the art of Interior & Architectural photography.  Her interest in environments both meticulously designed and those that exist in nature is what drives her to capture the essence of each space she sets out to photograph.”

Make sure to check out her truly inspiring portfolio!

If you desire a warm, welcoming and easy combining color option for your space, brown is an excellent choice as it has an all time classic essence. Brown, much like black can be wonderfully paired with a variety of shades.

However, dark browns have a tendency to absorb light so make sure to choose lighter tones for your walls.
