It should also by noted that Fiscus has been voted International Photographer in 2006 and it is definitely not hard to imagine why!

A diverse and inspiring photographic collection by Winkler + Noah which is definitely worth your attention. The photos shown here are from their “Freaks!” commissioned projects but there are so many more inspiring visuals in their official site. I quote some information from their site: “This creative need for self-expression matured over the years, first becoming curiosity and then a strong will to create and to photograph. After a professional detour as an illustrator and graphic designer, Noah met Winkler and this acted as a detonator, producing a mixture fusing traditional photography with experimentation. What their pictures reveal is a sensation of hyper-reality: the protagonists of their portraits appear in a real context, but they stand out from it as if highlighted by reality itself. They are stark, intense photos because each single picture encloses an idea and conveys powerful emotions to the observer. The artists deal personally with post-production so that the creative process joins up with itself like a circle.” The Mannequins Series is a personal project of photographer Jerome Abramovich from Montreal, which I sincerely loved at first sight!
Underground, striking conceptual shots that reflect the eccentricity of his characters / objects. You definitely have to explore his portfolio closer! Joshua Hoffine apparently specializes in horror photography! I’ve always been a fan of good thriller (not to mention that Graham Masterton is my favorite horror author) and that’s why I was absolutely awe struck by his atmospheric bloody shots! Each photo is staged and directed like a small horror film with sets, special make up effects and various props.
The photographer notes: “I believe that the horror story is ultimately concerned with the imminence and randomness of death, and the implication that there is no certainty to existence. The experience of horror resides in this confrontation with uncertainty. Horror tells us that our belief in security is delusional, and that the monsters are all around us”. For backstage shots and the making of various of Joshua’s projects, visit his blog here! Lisa Carletta’s project “Mickey’s Rejects” is inspiringly provoking and perfectly exquisite if you ask me! Loved browsing through the young photographer’s portfolio, which I assure you, is filled with a variety of visual candies! In the About section of her site, I read: “She is often inspired by her childhood heroes. She submerges them into oniric and nostalgic worlds, and she transforms their image to show them in a different light. All is tinted with a bit of darkness, humour and bad taste”. Lisa undoubtedly enters my fav photographer’s list as from now!
A very interesting conceptual photography collection by Finnish photographer Susanna Majuri who captures mysterious water scenes where emotion and color are released and thus a further visual communication with the viewer is provoked.
Every shot looks like a frozen moment from a story, almost like film stills! Sensual images that travel your imagination to a different epoch, captured by photographer Tamer Yilmaz. Warm, earthy tones with a strong dose of luxury and eroticism create a captivating atmosphere. [Pictures via here] Kyle Spears is a fine art photographer with a growing interest in urban shots. An inspiring balance between deep tones and lighting is apparent in his cityscapes.
From my point of view, his collection reflects a somehow dramatic and intense atmosphere and thus, an interesting visual communication takes place. Frankenkitty is a world full of bizarre creatures, masked creepy dolls and surreal characters of all kind. Conceptual themes, interesting textures and a vivid imagination combine perfectly in order to create a fascinating collection that urges you to look better and dive into this mysterious visual world. Mari Lowery is the photographer behind Frankenkitty and as she states: “I suppose that, overall, my style would be considered dark or surreal, and in many cases, creepy, but I just photograph what interests me. I collect dolls and many of the photos are of dolls from my own collection. Other than dolls, I also have a fascination with many things, including Masks, Day of the Dead, Frankenstein, Mannequins, Bunnies, Gnomes, Clowns, Coney Island, Animals, Clouds and Nature.” Megan Horsburgh is a self taught photographer raised in Pennsylvania and currently located in California. Her portraits are very emotive and expressive, covered by a dark veil of mystery. I also like the way she experiments with various techniques. As the artist mentions in her online bio: “In photography there are very few "firsts", and even fewer "lasts", but the possibilities are endless. I'll point a camera at just about anything, and quite often - at myself. Photography has shown me so many things, about myself and about the world in which we live. I never want to stop, and I'm never going to. So pay attention.” |
