The human form is a subject that deeply inspires Antony Gormley who has been creating sculptures of the human body and experimenting with the notion of transformation and collective identity for the last 25 years.

Mind blowing illustrations by Krzysztof Domaradzki a talented artist who currently lives and creates in Poland. Some info I found on the illustrator’s site: “Through experiments with various processes, production methods and design styles, Krzysztof seeks to discover, explore and represent everything that is visual. This often leads him to some self-initiated pieces and collaborations with kindred spirits in the field. Krzysztof holds a Master's Degree in Metal Techniques and Drawing from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan / Poland, the city where he currently lives and works.” Kate MccGwire’s overwhelming feather sculptures are urging the viewer to alter their perception and preconceptions about beauty.
Using uncommon materials, the artist creates dynamic forms that intrigue one’s imagination! I read in the artist’s statement: “Intrinsic to her method is the collecting and sorting of materials from hundreds of different sources over a period of months, even years. In turn, pieces evolve intuitively as if out of the subconscious, the language evocative rather than purely illustrative. As the work takes shape, a new, playful reality emerges, so that the object itself becomes a sort of prism, refracting the layers of meaning and cultural associations buried within, the quantity of materials used sometimes deliberately overwhelming, as if charged with a power and ambition beyond the reach they possess when seen in isolation”. I’ve been a fan of Elli Griva’s artwork the minute I laid my eyes on her paintings! It seemed to me like an explosion of colored emotions and symbols, a natural and pure attempt to reveal her inner self, thoughts, dreams and fears through vivid, persistent and abstract brushstrokes! There is so much going on in her work, makes you want to explore and discover every tiny detail.
Inspired by nature elements, Tracy Melton creates artwork out of slices of wood! Bold rings of acrylic color are painted on sanded and clear coated wood, automatically transforming it into a unique and contemporary piece of art.
The artist is a full time artist located in Knoxville and as he mentions: “My work is a expression of what I sees while hiking and camping in the Appalachian Mountains. It is based on how nature develops, grows, dies, then starts again. I like to engage in a nonverbal conversation about nature with the viewer through my paintings. They make me think abstractly about the process of life.” The work of Yellena makes me search for words! Abstract, colorful, liquid and so beautiful! Forms and color unite to create “colorful arrangements of organic shapes and tangled lines (which) are at once floral and alien, organic and sci-fi, crafty and fantastic. Within each piece I try to create an intimate world that posesses its own ethos and its own emotional range.” Somehow like an explosion of creative imagination!
The artist lives and creates in Portland while her artwork has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and her illustrations have been presented in a wide range of design publications. Colorful and abstract art series mostly inspired by nature elements by Rachel Ann Austin, an artist living and creating in Portland. I particularly enjoy the textures and brush strokes in her mixed media pieces. Not to mention the dreamy themes of her compositions. Beautiful work altogether!
As Rachel Ann mentions: “Common themes of abstracted landscapes, innocence, loneliness, travel and flight show up many times in my paintings. And circles - I have an obsession with circles.” Belinda Kemp is an Australia based artist creating imaginative and colorful abstract pieces with a touch of graphic design. Flowing forms and repeated patterns are used to depict emotions and thoughts.
A fresh mixed media and prints collection can be found in her Gretchen Mist shop. Jennifer Meastre produces original sculptures made out of pencils! Hundreds of pencils are cut, sharpened and sewed together in order to create these amazing colorful art objects. Inspired by nature elements, the artist states “The sections of pencils present aspects of sharp and smooth for two very different textural and aesthetic experiences. Paradox and surprise are integral in my choice of materials. Quantities of industrially manufactured objects are used to create flexible forms reminiscent of the organic shapes of animals and nature. Pencils are common objects, here, these anonymous objects become the structure. There is true a fragility to the sometimes brutal aspect of the sculptures, vulnerability that is belied by the fearsome texture.” Very fresh visuals by Johanna Schiegnitz! Playful sketches, cool handmade fonts, colorful collages and a vivid experimentingimagination are her magic tools. The artist after finishing her studies in Visual
Communication, is currently living and working in Berlin. |
