Eye striking paintings that dare the viewer to deal with hidden fears & anxieties. Intense colors, toys and objects, fluid forms, all arranged in an almost "sick" synthesis.

Sander van Deurzen notes: "At this moment I'm working on paintings, influenced by photo's found in different media. These paintings which contain more carnavalesk images are metaphoric for a bizarre world, in which there is decay all around. The obsessive preference for being, and staying young, which is dictated by advertisement, is taken down in paintings where life is tragical and comical at the same time. The control people want to have on their lives is lost.”

Everybody is familiar with Shepard Fairey’s work. His famous OBEY sticker campaign as well as the HOPE Obama Poster are two of his major achievements.

As he mentions in 1990 “The OBEY sticker attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the sticker and their relationship with their surroundings. Because people are not used to seeing advertisements or propaganda for which the product or motive is not obvious, frequent and novel encounters with the sticker provoke thought and possible frustration, nevertheless revitalizing the viewer’s perception and attention to detail. The sticker has no meaning but exists only to cause people to react, to contemplate and search for meaning in the sticker. Because OBEY has no actual meaning, the various reactions and interpretations of those who view it reflect their personality and the nature of their sensibilities”.

Born in L.A. in 1979, Joshua Petker started meddling with art through graffiti, which steadily led him to fine arts. Acrylic paintings with bright juxtaposing colors portraying womens dark souls.

As he mentions “Well, besides the obvious of finding women beautiful I basically started painting girls when I attempted painting because I wasn't really looking to anyone but Klimt for guidance. Since then, I've sort of built my visual language through the expressions of women.”
