There is a feel of collective consciousness in Mel Kadel’s inspiring artwork. Warm, earthy tones, a wide range of beautifully drawn patterns and a repeated woman figure are basic elements of her work. I found a very interesting interview of the artist for Fecal Face, where she states the reason this female figure often appears in her pieces: “I think the female(s) in my drawings are a lot of different people. I'm in there somewhere too, but it's not a story completely based around me. I use to draw more than just women, and i'm sure i will again, but over time she just became this reoccurring character that I gravitate towards these days. To me, It's like the scenes and struggles that she gets involved in, are more of what the drawing is about than she is. Her age and ethnicity is meant to be vague, to help not corner her into a stereotype. I really want people to relate to her and what she's conquering, more than her gender.” Make sure to visit her site for more visual treasures!

A lovely and original themed art collection by Norwegian artist Gunilla Holm Platou. A playful world where cows inhabitants are depicted in her watercolor and gouache series. Funny, joyful and whimsical, these prints are guaranteed to leave a huge smile on your face. They did on mine! The artist started her career in adveritising, worked as a TV presenter and finally during 2002 decided to become a full time artist.
Textured papers, wood, vivid colors, paintings, drawings, sketches and a vivid, almost surreal imagination are the key components of this little art kingdom called Retrowhale! As it is mentioned in Retrowhale’s Etsy Shop: “My shop is filled with random cheesy, cutesy, artsy stuff. I’m inspired by everything but especially 70’s and 80’s design, rap lyrics, animals, and oddities.” Can you spell coolness? [click on thumbnails to view larger version]
Inspired by nature elements, Tracy Melton creates artwork out of slices of wood! Bold rings of acrylic color are painted on sanded and clear coated wood, automatically transforming it into a unique and contemporary piece of art.
The artist is a full time artist located in Knoxville and as he mentions: “My work is a expression of what I sees while hiking and camping in the Appalachian Mountains. It is based on how nature develops, grows, dies, then starts again. I like to engage in a nonverbal conversation about nature with the viewer through my paintings. They make me think abstractly about the process of life.” The work of Yellena makes me search for words! Abstract, colorful, liquid and so beautiful! Forms and color unite to create “colorful arrangements of organic shapes and tangled lines (which) are at once floral and alien, organic and sci-fi, crafty and fantastic. Within each piece I try to create an intimate world that posesses its own ethos and its own emotional range.” Somehow like an explosion of creative imagination!
The artist lives and creates in Portland while her artwork has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and her illustrations have been presented in a wide range of design publications. Charming & emotive characters appear in Nan Lawson’s fresh color world! Simple lines, warm colors and a very interesting and appealing quirky drawing style are the main attributes of this beautiful illustration collection. A very affordable set of prints is available in the artist’s etsy shop! I’m definitely getting one soon! Leigh Viner, the multitalented self taught artist behind JKL Design brings her refreshing love for color, fashion and beauty into her glam portraits! Alluring and seductive glances depicted in the most eye engaging manner!
The artist lives and creates in Denver Colorado and her creative activities also include photography, fashion design and makeup art. View her available prints on Etsy and take a peak at her fresh blog! Italian painter Vincenzo Rizzo creates portraits filled with bold power! His mixed media collection is a series of expressive portraits where color and texture combined with fantastic, almost liquid drawings and a vivid imagination, give you the impression that they’ve literally captured a woman’s soul! The artist has finished his Fine Art studies and is specialized in visual arts. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and keeps experimenting with various techniques. A new entry in my top fav list! A former graphic designer, Dilka decided to dedicate her creativity in being a full time artist. I believe she took the right decision! Her watercolors and acrylics on wood travel the viewer in magical worlds of visual pleasure and mystery. I particularly appreciate the balance in her color palette and the stylized attributes of her illustrated characters. Browsing through her online shop one can find a variety of whimsical illustrations. Imagine her prints in light colored wooden or white matte frames. Pure pleasure! The artist’s studies in fashion design have obviously influenced her artwork! Femme fatales in bold colors, mysterious gazes, feminine patterns and a glam atmosphere are key elements in Peggy’s illustration world! Peggy is currently living and creating in London and besides drawing she is also creating fabulous collages. For more, take a look at her Peggy Wolf Design shop in Etsy. |
