Cutting edge portraiture by Jannica Honey who attempts to capture the darker side of her characters.

The photographer notes: “My aim is to create "real" images, I attempt to expose what is going on deep within the psyche of my subjects. My photographs are of authentic people with their emotional and physical baggage exposed. When I create I tend and prefer to portrait people I have come to know intimately and have connected with”.

Bold and eccentric photography by Daria Marchik, also known as D.A.M., a photographer, artist and stylist from Berlin.

The photos presented are part of her “Metro Mermaids” project and the artist’s statement goes as following: “Hocuspocus fidibus. Alluring mischievous creatures in this Utopian underworld are known to be curious & envious of human life. In embodying the sins of Pride, Vanity & Lust, Red dominates.. describing the Sun in the heavens & the world it shines upon from above. Berlopia”.

Hope & Fear

The Hope & Fear project by talented Mr. Toledano is a very interesting visual approach to stereotypes.

The photographer’s statement: “Hope & Fear is the external manifestation of internal desires and paranoia that are adrift in contemporary American society. What are we afraid of? What do we love? How does our society function, and what does it worship?”.

It should be also noted that all the costumes are real. Don’t mistake them for photo manipulations.

Domestic Vacations

A very interesting project by Julie Blackmon who is capturing everyday family life in a most inspiring and sincere manner. The resulting imagery is almost surreal, just like in reality!

The photographer states: “The stress, the chaos, and the need to simultaneously escape and connect are issue that I investigate in this body of work. We live in a culture where we are both “child centered” and “self-obsessed.” The struggle between living in the moment versus escaping to another reality is intense since these two opposites strive to dominate. Caught in the swirl of soccer practices, play dates, work, and trying to find our way in our “make-over” culture, we must still create the space to find ourselves. The expectations of family life have never been more at odds with each other. These issues, as well as the relationship between the domestic landscape of the past and present, are issues I have explored in these photographs. I believe there are moments that can be found throughout any given day that bring sanctuary. It is in finding these moments amidst the stress of the everyday that my life as a mother parallels my work as an artist, and where the dynamics of family life throughout time seem remarkably unchanged. As an artist and as a mother, I believe life’s most poignant moments come from the ability to fuse fantasy and reality:  to see the mythic amidst the chaos.”
